Antenatal Care

This will commence from very early in pregnancy. The schedule of care varies depending on individual needs, and your choice of primary carer.  Care delivered is governed by the recommendations given in the Department of Health Pregnancy Care Guideline, National Midwifery Guidelines for Consultation and Referral and relevant state legislation.

All components of antenatal care are bulk billed however there may be out of pocket costs from health practitioners and healthcare services who are collaborative partners. For further information click on the collaborations tab.

Postnatal Care

Returning home following the birth of your baby can be a very daunting and challenging time. Care given from Blessing Midwifery Services will commence on discharge from your birthing hospital.

Home visits are flexible depending on you and your babies’ individual needs.  Within these home visit appointments support will be given to ensure appropriate post delivery recovery for yourself, and advice provided regarding newborn cares and feeding. This service is available until your baby is 6 weeks old. 

All attended home visits are bulk billed.

Pregnancy, Birth and Early Parenting Education

Education, information and resources will be provided through out your schedule of care with Blessing. It is hoped that this will facilitate you to make informed choices about pregnancy, birth, early parenting and psychological preparation for parenthood.

At the beginning of your third semester we also offer group sessions regarding what to expect approaching the birth and in the first few weeks of becoming a parent. These classes are available to both new parents and parents who feel they would benefit from a refresher.  

This is not a bulk billed item and the cost is $100 per couple. Most private healthcare funds will rebate this full amount leaving no out of pocket cost.

Infant Feeding

This is often the most identified area where families feel they need support following birth, especially for breastfeeding mums.  What ever the choice of infant feeding is, it will be fully supported by Blessing Midwifery Services.

You will have access to an IBLCE lactation consultant both in antenatal clinic and for home visits in the postnatal period if you choose to breastfeed.

Lactation services are also available after your baby is 6 weeks of age, however this is not a bulk billed item therefore the following costs will occur.

Home visit consultation $120.

Health Education

Optimal physical and mental wellbeing is essential during pregnancy, birth and early parenting. Because of this, education regards living a healthy lifestyle are explored and discussed throughout your continuum of care with Blessing Midwifery Services.

There are many physical changes that occur to woman in pregnancy, and for both parents emotions and feelings can be overwhelming. Lots of education and reasurrance is vital in promoting a healthy pregnacy and parenting experiences. 

Topics such as physical activity, diet, smoking, alcohol, mental health and wellbeing are all explored throughout your scheduled appointments within our service. 

Referrals

A functional referral system is in place at Blessing Maternity Services for all relevant health care practitioners, i.e. GP obstetricians, Specialist obstetricians and services i.e. woman’s health physiotherapist and psychologist and hospitals.

Your midwife can make all these referrals if and when the need arises within your bulk billed appointments.

TeleHealth

Telephone and services now available due to the current COVID-19 regulations.

Over the phone consults can be given saving you from long waits or needing to leave your home.
